A Sexual Health Overview

Frequently Asked Questions about STDs
How common are STDs?
Sexually transmitted diseases and infections are likely much more common than you think. The CDC reports that 15-24 year olds account for more than half of all new STD infections in the United States. In 2013, there were nearly 1.4 million new cases of chlamydia diagnosed nationwide. The rise of Trichomoniasis, Herpes I and II, HPV and other sexually transmitted infections make it more common than ever to contract a communicable illness through sex.
What are common STD Symptoms?
Many common STDs can present without symptoms, which makes it even more important to get tested after an unsafe encounter, if you’ve had multiple partners or just to check in on your sexual health.
Common symptoms include a sore or rash on the genitals, pain or burning during urination, or discharge from the penis or vagina. If you are experiencing new pelvic pain, the condition might require immediate attention from an urgent care facility or emergency room.
Should I Get Tested for STDs?
If you’ve had unprotected sex at any point, if you’ve had more than one partner over the past year or if you’re feeling symptoms that are commonly associated with sexually transmitted diseases, you should make an appointment to get tested as soon as possible.
The danger with many sexually transmitted diseases and infections is that they can present without any symptoms. What initially could have been cured with a round of antibiotics caught early can have very serious health consequences if left untreated. In the case of HIV/AIDS, Pre- and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP) drugs can help to slow or even stop the progression of the disease. If you’ve been exposed to the HIV/AIDs virus, go to an urgent care facility or the ER to get a dosage of these potentially life-saving drugs, and follow up by getting tested six weeks after the encounter.
What is the wait time for results?
Three business days or less is our commitment to you to deliver test results. This is the typical delivery time, however, some tests like HIV Early Detection have a longer processing time, usually 5 business days. A notification that your results are ready will be sent to you by email, prompting you to view them in your online account.
How accurate are test tesults?
Any medical test, STD or otherwise, does not have a 100% accuracy rate. Some STDs are unique in that most require a two week window to appear from the date of infection on a test. Others need a larger window in order to register as positive, closer to six weeks. It is for that reason that we recommend anyone who had an unprotected sexual encounter with a partner who is positive for any sexually transmitted disease get tested twice.
What should I know about billing?
All major credit cards and Health Savings Account (HSA)/Flex Spending Account (FSA) payments are accepted by our service. We also offer a “pay later” option, so you can get the testing you need even if money is tight right now. We recently also began accepting PayPal and assorted cryptocurrencies.
If you would like to cancel your tests and get a full refund, send in a request within 21 days of scheduling your test order and before visiting the test lab.
How much does the service cost?
Individual tests start as low as $24. 10 STD test panels run $198, and adding the HIV RNA Early Detection test takes the price to $349. It’s a competitive price, plus it comes with private and secure patient care you can count on.
