According to reports from the Tulsa County Health Department, 3,395 new infections occurred in the county area compared to 3,146 in 2010, demonstrating a 7.3% increase. With 1,760 new HIV infections reported at the end of 2014, this part of the state accounts for 34.1% of all infections spanning across Oklahoma, preceded only by the number of infections tallied in Oklahoma City. The rate of HIV infection in the Tulsa MSA in 2014 was 10.8 new infections per 100,000 residents, which exceeded the Oklahoma state rate of 8 /100,000. The African American population also accounted for a the majority of gonorrhea infections, with local health authorities reporting 57.5% of total infections as affiliated with this racial/ethnic group. The age distribution is more spread out when it comes to reported cases of syphilis in the Tulsa area, however, the highest percentage reported (19.9%) was by the 25-29 year old age group. Once again, the majority of reported infections is attributed to African Americans, with 39.2% of reported syphilis infections between 2011 and 2013.³

HIV in the Tulsa MSA, the Metropolitan Statistical Area including Creek, Okmulgee, Osage, Pawnee, Rogers, Tulsa, and Wagoner counties, sees a higher number of infections reported in men compared to women. In 2014, 84.4% of total cases found in men , compared to 15.6% in women. The racial/demographic report with the highest number of new HIV cases in this time frame were Caucasians. African Americans claimed the highest rate of HIV infections. The age group with the most new HIV diagnoses is the 20-29 year old segment, with 41%.
